I'm working up an article and I might as well crowd source some fact checking here so I don't miss anything — what was the most successful individual chassis in 24 hours of le mans history?
Was there any individual car that won more than two races? There's one I can think of (pictured above) and one that I'm thinking of that I won't mention.

Jag XJR 14, chassis number 791 won Le mans twice, both times as a Porsche

Id like to say the Porsche 956/962 or 917

the same chassis also won 24h of nurb as a jag.

those wins were never on the same individual chassis, unless I'm mistaken

I want to say the Audi R18.

You are not. 962 Chassis 153 and 158

Outright wins or would class victories count? I think there's a 911 or two that might have won their class a few times. And what about the corvettes? Were they built on a new chassis every year?

The same Bentley Speed Six won in 1929 and 1930 (Old Number One)

Maybe the Alfa Romeo 8C?

positive the same chassis won 68-69

Beat me to it.

wait, you mean to say those chassis have two wins to each?
![]() 01/07/2015 at 16:09 |

aha! I figured one of those bentleys did it

I'm talking outright

After my two minute research I'm guessing Alfa Romeo 8C 2300. It won 4 times but I'm not sure if it was the same chassis. I've made this list of Le Mans winners by engine type if that's any help at all.

Every history I've read says GT40 1075 is the only multiple winner. If there's another that's been lost to history, I'd love to know about it!

interesting, it appears there was some lawsuit over this? the '30 winner was a total rebuild of the '29, with almost nothign being carried over. Interesting.
":No-one has suggested that this car which won the 1930 Le Mans was a new car, merely that it was a metamorphosis from the 1929 car. The 1930 car was a continuous process and an evolutionary stage of the car's development. The modifications were clearly justified by the win and the increased average speed of 76.88 mph."

No, sorry, I meant to say that the two wins attributed to 962's were two different chassis. (You were not mistaken)

There's also the Lorraine-Dietrich B3-6 which probably did, but I can't find any confirmation that they used the same chassis for both of their wins.

Yeah, I was just reading that too.

Bentley chassis "Old number one" won in both 1929 and 1930 so technically bentley did it before ford. But other than that I think it is one of the few other individual chassis to win outright more than once.

Different chassis in their four wins:
1931: #2111005
1932: #2111018
1933: #2211109
1934: #2311249

Raph, it's not the fastest resource to use, but a cool database for checking this sort of thing is Racing Sports Cars. ( http://www.racingsportscars.com/ )

there are 3 others. 2 Porsches (a 956 and the WSC-95) and a Bentley

More of a general reply, than to the specific question, but a good resource for this sort of thing is: http://www.mulsannescorner.com/
Lots of technical stuff on le mans through the years.

looks like the '26 winner had failed to finish the '25 event

Didn't one of the Audi's? Like the R8s or something? I remember that one of the engines was used also in the Bentley but I guess that doesn't count does it?

I hashed that up....too many chassis #'s to track each winner...

D-Types.
They cleaned up in the late 50s, and things were quite recyclable back then. Could there be a chance that one or two of those chassis were used more than once?

962 Chassis #117 won Le Mans twice. 84 & 85
Joest still has 'lucky #7' in his museum today.
